Canadian pig iron output down 4.5 percent in 2011

Canada produced 7.3 million mt pig iron in 2011, decreasing 4.5 percent compared to 2010, according to the data released by Statistics Canada, while the country's total iron and scrap charged to furnaces in 2011 amounted to 14.5 million mt, down 0.8 percent compared to 2010.
 
In 2011, Canada's total steel pipe production rose 0.4 percent compared to 2010 amounting to 2.3 million mt, while its total shipments of steel pipe products reached 2.55 million mt, up 3.4 percent year on year. Canadian steel pipe exports in 2011 totaled 916,313 mt, rising 0.7 percent compared to the previous year.
 
Meanwhile, Canada's domestic shipments of rolled steel in 2011 came to 11 million mt, down 11 percent compared to 2010. In Canada total domestic alloy shipments in 2011 amounted to 92,591 mt, up 7.2 percent year on year.
