Chinese steelmaker Anshan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (Ansteel) has announced that it has successfully delivered 7,079 mt of steel rails of 18 meters in length to Algeria for the railway project under construction in the western part of the country.

Accordingly, jointly developed by China and Algeria under the One Belt, One Road initiative, the new 575-kilometer railway will connect Algeria’s Béchar province with the Gâra-Djebilet iron ore area in its Tindouf province. Once the project is completed, mining areas, industrial areas and ports in Algeria will be interconnected.

According to the Algerian government, Gâra Djebilet is one of the largest iron ore mines in the world, with reserves of 3.5 billion mt.
