In March, China's rebar output soared sharply with a year-on-year increase of 20.4 percent, dramatically up 28.8 percent compared with February.
The latest data show that China's March crude steel output totaled 40.157 million mt, up 6.804 million mt or 20.4 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the Q1 output reached 114.704 million mt, up 20.915 million mt or 22.3 percent.
China'a pig iron output in March stood at 38.067 million mt, up 5.642 million mt or 17.4 percent. The output figure for Q1 rose 17.86 million mt or 19.7 percent to 108.521 million mt.
Meanwhile, the national finished steel output for March was 46.955 million mt, up 9.6 million mt or 25.7 percent. On the other hand, the total finished output in Q1 reached 126.344 million mt, up 26.23 million mt or 26.2 percent.

In March, China's iron ore output stood at 55.616 million mt, up 10.8 million mt or 24.1 percent year on year, showing a slowdown in its growth. Meanwhile, the total first quarter iron ore output totaled 137.522 million mt, up 34.812 million mt or 33.9 percent.
Coke output in March totaled 26.03 million mt, up 4.972 million mt or 23.6 percent; while Q1 output amounted to 73.009 million mt, up 13.988 million mt or 23.7 percent.
Ferroalloy output totaled 1.335 million mt, up 433,000 mt or 48 percent; while Q1 output totaled 3.571 million mt, up 1.098 million mt or 44.4 percent.
Taking imports and exports into account, the crude steel supply in March was 35.517 million mt in the domestic market, up eight percent year on year. Meanwhile, the figure for the first quarter of 2007 rose 14.7 percent to 102.624 million mt.
