China’s steel bar exports down 88 percent in H1 2009

China's steel bar exports in June stood at 77,300 mt, down 611,300 mt or 88.78 percent year on year, totaling $53 million in value, down $604 million or 91.88 percent compared with the same month last year. The average export price was $691.71/mt. Total exports in the January-June period reached 348,400 mt, down 2.6366 million mt or 88.33 percent, amounting to $311 million in value, down $2.279 billion or 88.01 percent year on year.

Steel bar imports in June stood at 23,000 mt, down 14,200 mt or 38.25 percent year on year, totaling $46 million in value, down $27 million or 37.02 percent compared with the same month last year. The average import price was $1,982.04/mt. Total January-June steel bar imports reached 113,300 mt, down 110,600 mt or 49.4 percent, amounting to a total value of $241 million, down $181 million or 42.87 percent year on year.
