Chongqing Iron & Steel Group Iron Industry halts operations at old facilities

On December 29, Chongqing Iron and Steel Group stated that its fully-owned subsidary Chongiqng Iron and Steel Group Iron Industry, an iron maker with an annual output of 0.3 million mt of pig iron, has halted its operations and that dismantling work on its production facilities has begun.

Chongiqng Iron and Steel Group Iron Industry has been based at Xiaba county, Jiangjin district, Chongqing municipality, western China.

At present, the company is carrying out relocation work. It is expected that in June, 2011 the phase 1 relocation project will be completed. The new factory located in the Changshou district will have three production lines, producing 4,100 mm heavy plate, 2,700 mm medium plate and 1,780 mm hot rolled strip, with a total annual output of 6 million mt of steel products. The new facilities will form a major shipbuilding steel production base in China.
