In April this year, new car registrations totaled 1,273,733 units in the European Union (EU), with an increase of 9.1 percent year on year, marking the 32nd consecutive month of year-on-year growth, according to the latest figures issued by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA).
In April, Spain (+21.2%) and Italy (+11.5%) were the major EU markets which recorded increases in new car registrations on year-on-year basis, followed by Germany (+8.4%), France (+7.1%) and the UK (+2.0%), which also performed better than in April 2015.
Meanwhile, in the January-April period, new passenger car registrations in the EU increased to 5,094,026 units, up 8.5 percent year on year. In this period, Italy saw an increase of 18.6 percent, while new passenger car registrations in Spain rose by 10.3 percent, France saw a rise of 7.9 percent, with registrations in Germany rising by 5.6 percent and with registrations in the UK up 4.4 percent, all year-on-year basis.
