Euro area annual inflation rises to -0.1 percent in May

Annual inflation in the euro area was -0.1 percent in May this year, up from -0.2 percent in April, according to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities. In May 2015, the annual inflation rate was 0.3 percent.
 
Meanwhile, in the European Union (EU-28) annual inflation was also -0.1 percent in May, up from -0.2 percent in April. In May 2015, the annual inflation rate in the EU-28 was 0.3 percent.
 
In May this year, negative annual rates were observed in 16 states in the EU-28. The lowest inflation rates were observed in Romania (-3.0%), Bulgaria (-2.5%) and Cyprus (-1.9%), while the highest were observed in Belgium (1.6%), Malta (1.0%) and Sweden (0.8%).
