According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in April this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.4 percent compared to March and fell also by 1.5 percent compared to the same month of 2015. In March, production had decreased by 1.5 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in April decreased by 0.2 percent month on month and moved down by 0.4 percent year on year. In March, production had decreased by one percent compared to February, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in April increased by 0.3 percent month on month and was down 0.8 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.1 percent from March and was down by 5.2 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased 0.4 percent month on month and was down 0.7 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 0.9 percent month on month and by 1.3 percent year on year.
As compared to April 2015, construction output in April this year increased by 12.8 percent in Romania, by 8.7 percent in Sweden and by 6.2 percent in the Netherlands, while a decrease of 31.2 percent was registered in Slovenia, a decline of 29.8 percent was seen in Hungary, a fall of 15.9 percent was recorded in Poland, with a decrease of 15.2 percent in the Czech Republic.
As compared to March, construction output in April this year increased by 5.8 percent in Romania, by 5.4 percent in Slovenia and by 3.0 percent in the UK, while construction output decreased by 3.3 percent in the Czech Republic, by 2.4 percent in Spain and by 2.1 percent in Bulgaria.
