According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.4 percent compared to January and rose by 2.3 percent compared to the same month of 2015. In January, production had increased by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in February decreased by 1.1 percent month on month and moved up by 2.5 percent year on year. In January, production had increased by 2.4 percent compared to December, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in February decreased by 0.5 percent month on month and was up 2.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.3 percent from January and was down by 1.4 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction decreased 1.5 percent month on month and was up 2.8 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.9 percent month on month and by 1.3 percent year on year.
As compared to February 2015, construction output in February this year increased by 18.8 percent in Slovakia, by 13 percent in Spain and by 11.3 percent in Sweden, while a decrease of 30.8 percent was registered in Slovenia, a decline of 19.3 percent was seen in Hungary and with a decrease of 10.1 percent in Poland.
As compared to January, construction output in February increased by 5.1 percent in Romania, by 3.1 percent in the UK and by 2.7 percent in Bulgaria, while construction output decreased by 6.0 percent in France, by 5.1 percent in Sweden and by 4.1 percent in the Slovenia.
