At a meeting held on July 4, the government of China's Hebei Province stressed the importance of capacity elimination and structural adjustment, stating that the province will eliminate 40 million mt of iron-making and steel production capacity, 30 million mt of coal capacity and 10 million mt of coke capacity in the three years from 2018 to 2020.
In 2018, Hebei Province will eliminate 12 million mt of iron-making and steel production capacity, 12.17 million mt of coal capacity and five million mt of coke capacity, with all targets to be achieved by the end of November this year. The province plans to eliminate 14 million mt of iron-making and steel capacity in 2019 and a further 14 million mt in 2020.
Meanwhile, Hebei Province has eliminated 64.42 million mt of iron-making capacity and 69.93 million mt of steel production capacity during the past five years.
