India’s SAIL achieves highest-ever crude steel output in FY 2019-20

Indian state-run steelmaker Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that it became the leader of crude steel production in India in the financial year 2019-20. In the given period, SAIL’s crude steel production amounted to 16.15 million mt, achieving the highest level among all other steel producers in the country. SAIL chairman Shri Anil Kumar Chaudhary said that the company has been continuously focusing on increasing its steel production from its renovated units.

Besides, SAIL recorded its highest-ever annual sales in the financial year 2019-20 at 14.5 million mt, up 2.8 percent compared to the previous financial year.

In the same period, the company’s exports has also amounted to 1.18 million mt, increasing by 54 percent year on year owing to its strategies to expand its market portfolio.

Shri Chaudhary said that SAIL has focused on developing and introducing a wider range of valued-added and market-oriented products. He also indicated that the company has been gradually increasing its share of exports with its world-class products including railway products.
