According to local Italian media, the forge division of Italian steelmaker Arvedi Acciai Speciali Terni (Arvedi AST) has produced a monumental 270-ton steel cylinder. This is the company's largest product since 1884 and is intended for delivery to a rolling mill in Germany. Arvedi-AST is located in Terni, in the region of Umbria in the heart of Italy, and it is one of the country’s major steelmakers.
The cylinder was formed from a single truncated cone block of steel, with a diameter of 4.5 meters and a height of 6.0 meters. The product is the world’s largest cylinder, and currently only a few Asian steel mills can produce it. Arvedi-AST is the sole Western mill capable of such production.
Last weekend, the product was carried by a special train to the port of Civitavecchia, from where it was shipped to Rotterdam. From there it will be moved to Germany.
