UK-based plantmaker Primetals Technologies has announced that Italian steelmaker Acciaieria Arvedi has ordered vacuum oxygen decarburization systems to replace its two existing vacuum degasser plants at its Cremona steel mill in order to be able to produce electrical steel.

Scheduled to be completed in the second half of 2025, the project will allow Arvedi to expand its product portfolio and to serve new markets. The Italian steelmaker plans to be a pioneer in the production of electrical and ULC/IF steel grades through the electric arc furnace, ladle furnace and vacuum oxygen decarburization route in the near future.
