In December last year, Japanese crude steel production was up by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month, while it increased by nine percent year on year, totaling 9.34 million mt, according to the data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Meanwhile, in December Japan's pig iron production totaled 7.03 million metric tons, increasing by 2.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year and up five percent month on month.
In 2013, the country's pig iron output stood at 83.85 million metric tons, rising by three percent, while its crude steel production came to 101.57 million metric tons, rising by 3.1 percent, both compared to 2012.
