Latin America's finished steel production in June was down nine percent year on year to 4.4 million mt, according to data released by Alacero, the Latin American steel association.
In the first six months of this year, Latin America's finished steel production fell by three percent year on year to 27.05 million mt.
According to Alacero, Brazil accounted for 44 percent of the region's total finished steel output, producing 11.9 million mt of finished steel in the first half of the year. Mexico ranked second with a 8.7 million mt output, which represents 32 percent of the region's total production.
Latin America's finished steel consumption in the first six months amounted to 34.8 million mt, down one percent year on year. According to Alacero, Mexico’s finished steel consumption increased by 10 percent or 1.2 million mt, followed by Ecuador with an increase of nine percent or 79,000 mt. On the other hand, Brazil saw its finished steel consumption decrease by 10 percent year on year. Likewise, Argentina's domestic finished steel consumption declined by four percent year on year.
