The Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has released its production results for the second quarter of 2009.
Accordingly, in Q2 2009 MMK recorded a 26 percent increase in its pig iron production to 2.006 million mt, and a four percent rise in its crude steel output to 2.159 million mt, both compared to Q1 2009. Meanwhile, the company's Q2 output of finished steel products grew insignificantly quarter on quarter by only 2,000 mt, amounting to 1.919 million mt.
During the second quarter of the current year, MMK produced 261,000 mt of longs - up two percent, 1.09 million mt of hot rolled products - down 13 percent, and 278,000 mt of cold rolled products - up 47 percent, all compared to Q1 2009.
In addition, during the period in question, MMK's tin plate output went up by 87 percent to 73,000 mt, its galvanized color coated production increased by 20 percent to 46,000 mt, its galvanized steel output rose by 51 percent to 118,000 mt, while its pipe production decreased by two percent to 13,000 mt, all compared to Q1 2009.
Neither commercial slab nor billet was produced at MMK in the second quarter of 2009.
