MOC: China concerned over tougher EU stance on steel imports

Tuesday, 22 March 2016 13:54:08 (GMT+3)   |   Shanghai

China is concerned over the tougher stance adopted by the European Commission (EC) towards cheap imports of steel from China, an official at the country’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) stated on Monday, March 21.

The unnamed official said that overcapacity is a global industrial problem that needs to be dealt with through dialogue and cooperation, adding that trade protectionism will do little to resolve the issue.

China has always opposed trade protectionism and expects the EU to abide by international commitments to avoid sending the wrong signal to the international community, the MOC official added.
