The Russian steelmaker Novolipetsk Steel (NLMK) has issued the first quarter 2008 production results for itself and its subsidiaries.
Accordingly, in the first three months of 2008 NLMK produced 2.434 million metric tons of pig iron - up 4.1 percent, 2.386 million metric tons of crude steel - up 1.6 percent, 969,000 metric tons of slabs - down eight percent, 541,000 metric tons of hot rolled products (including HRC supplied to VIZ-Stal) - up 19.4 percent, 427,000 metric tons of cold rolled products - down 4.3 percent, 112,000 metric tons of HDG - up 23.5 percent, 91,000 metric tons of pre-painted steel - up 5.5 percent, 82,000 metric tons of dynamo steel - down 12.2 percent, and 41,000 metric tons of transformer steel - up 17.3 percent, all compared to the first quarter of 2007.
During the period in question, NLMK's Danish subsidiary DanSteel A/S decreased its heavy plate sales by 4.4 percent year on year to 136,000 metric tons.
VIZ-Stal registered a three percent increase in its transformer steel sales and an 11.3 percent increase in its dynamo steel sales year on year, rising to 47,000 metric tons and to 4,000 metric tons respectively in the first three months of 2008.
NLMK's iron ore subsidiary Stoilensky GOK showed a 2.3 percent increase in its iron ore concentrate sales but a 3.7 percent decrease in its sinter ore sales year on year in the first three months of 2008. The respective figures in metric tons were three million and 419,000.
During the period in question Altai-koks sold 865,000 metric tons of coke (moisture 6 percent), showing a four percent year on year increase.
Finally, in the first quarter of 2008, Maxi-Group's sales of billets decreased by 59.9 percent, its sales of rebar increased by 182 percent, its sales of wire rod went down by 51.9 percent and its scrap sales (including the sales within Maxi-Group) by six percent year on year. The respective figures in metric tons were 121,000, 313,000, 39,000, and 520,000.
