No scrap exports from Georgia to Turkey in February

According to the data provided by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat), in February this year, there is no record of ferrous scrap exports from Georgia to Turkey, which is one of Georgia's main trading partners. In January this year, Georgia's ferrous scrap exports to Turkey had amounted to 2,850 metric tons, decreasing significantly compared to the 14,134 mt recorded in January 2012. Georgia's ferrous scrap exports to Turkey have been declining on a cumulative basis since the January-July period of 2011.

According to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey's scrap imports from Georgia, which have mostly moved on a declining trend since the peak volume in 2003, fell to their lowest level since 1998 in 2012.

However, Georgia exported 3,861 mt of semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel to Turkey in the first two months of this year, with a value of $1.9 million, with no record of exports of the products in question in the same period of 2012.

Meanwhile, in January-February period of the current year Georgia's ferroalloy exports to Turkey decreased to 1,644 metric tons from 5,505 metric tons in January-February 2012. On the other hand, in the January-February of the current year ferroalloy exports has the second largest share in Georgia's total export commodities with 13 percent, rising compared to the 9.2 percent recorded in the same period of the previous year.
