Nucor to construct new rebar facility in North Carolina

According to the statement released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce, Nucor Rebar Fabrication, a subsidiary of US steelmaker Nucor Corporation, will invest over $20 million to build a new rebar facility in the state. Nucor Rebar Fabrication is a construction services company that fabricates, installs, and distributes rebar to a variety of infrastructure and building projects.

The new facility in question will be built adjacent to Nucor’s new steel rebar micro mill, which is currently under construction in Lexington. The statement indicates that there is a need for a new facility that will cater to the needs of infrastructure and nonresidential construction projects, given the growth in the region.

In February this year, Nucor’s board of directors had approved a $860-million investment to construct a rebar micro mill with a capacity of 650,000 mt per year that will use 100 percent recycled scrap, as SteelOrbis reported previously.
