Turkish steelmaker Kardemir Çelik Sanayi A.Ş. (Kar-Demir) has reduced the energy used in billet production by 15-30 percent with the Furnace Energy Saving System & Continuous Charging (FESCON) technology supplied by Turkish engineering company GEMKOM which is used at its plants in Aliağa, according to a report published by Turkish newspaper Ekonomi Gazetesi. FESCON technology provides more energy efficiency compared to the commonly used basket heating method.
Accelerating its green energy investments with the aim of reducing its environmental impacts and minimizing energy dependency, Kar-Demir commissioned a 4 MW solar power plant in October this year, increasing its total energy production to 24 MW together with the Bozyaka wind power plant. The company plans to build new power plants, make capacity investments and expand its product portfolio with the aim to further increase its global competitiveness.
In addition, in the first six months of the year, the company’s turnover was TRY 8.9 billion, compared to TRY 11.6 billion in the whole year of 2023, while its net profit totaled TRY 780 million in the first half this year.
