The annual inflation rate of the 34 Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries reached 0.9 percent in December last year, compared to 0.7 percent in the previous month, according to the latest figures.
The inflation rate of energy prices fell at a slower pace in December, declining to 8.6 percent from 10 percent recorded in November, while inflation in food prices decreased to 0.8 percent in December from 1.2 percent in the previous month. Excluding food and energy, the OECD annual inflation rate rose slightly by 1.9 percent in December compared to 1.8 percent in November.
Compared with the same month of 2014, annual inflation reached 0.7 percent in December in the United States, following the year-on-year rate of 0.5 percent recorded in November, while in Canada inflation increased to 1.6 percent, up from 1.4 percent. In December, in the UK annual inflation increased to 0.2 percent from 0.1 percent in November, and in France annual inflation rose to 0.2 percent from 0.0 percent in November. Annual inflation in Italy remained stable month on month at 0.1 percent in December. Meanwhile, in Germany annual inflation decreased to 0.3 percent compared to 0.4 percent in November, while annual inflation in Japan fell to 0.2 percent compared to 0.3 in the previous month.
