Output of 51 major shipbuilding firms in China down 16.4% in Jan-May

In the January-May period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output of 51 major shipbuilding enterprises in China amounted to 11.97 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 16.4 percent year on year, as announced by the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI). In the given period, new ship orders of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises amounted to 13.88 million dwt, increasing by 106 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship orders on the books of the shipbuilding enterprises totaled 117.86 million dwt, down 13.6 percent year on year.
 
In the January-May period of the current year, the aggregate shipbuilding output for export orders of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 11.13 million dead weight tons (dwt), down 14.7 percent year on year. Meanwhile, new ship export orders of the shipbuilding enterprises in the period in question amounted to 13.19 million dwt, increasing by 129 percent year on year. As of the end of May, ship export orders on the books of the 51 major shipbuilding enterprises totaled 113.15 million dwt, down 12.7 percent year on year.
