Argentina produced 38,440 units (cars and light commercial vehicles) in May, against 42,974 units in April, according to the country’s sector association ADEFA.
During the same period, exports increased by 11.5 percent to 22,974 units, while domestic sales increased by 24.1 percent to 27.851 units, both month on month.
When comparing to May 2023, production declined by 27.9 percent, exports declined by 24.1 percent and domestic sales declined by 27.9 percent.
Martin Zuppi, president of ADEFA, said in a statement that the reduced production in May derives from stoppages of plants, due to the shortage of parts produced in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, heavily affected by the intensive rains that have flooded the state.
He added that, for the first time in the year, the sector has achieved an increase of domestic and export sales in relation to the previous month, a fact that could be pointing to a change of tendency, if confirmed that the lower point of the curve occurred in April, and the performance will increase over the coming months.
