According to the State Statistics Committee of Russia (Russtat), in the first three months of the current year Russia registered a 5.7 percent year-on-year rise in its finished steel product output to 15.5 million mt, a 4.4 percent increase in its crude steel output to 18 million mt and a 6.2 percent rise in its pig iron production to 12.7 million mt. In January-March, Russia saw an 15.5 percent decrease in its steel pipe production to 2.3 million mt.
In January-March 2012, Russia produced 85.8 million mt of coal and 6.8 million mt of metallurgical coke - up 5.3 percent and 0.8 percent respectively compared to the same period last year.
