In January-August of the current year, Russia supplied 1.558 million mt of steel products to European Union (EU) countries, as reported by the Russian customs authorities.
In particular, in the given period Russia exported to the European Union 879,088 mt of SA1 hot rolled coil (HRC), 141,289 mt of SA2 steel plate, 306,984 mt of SA3 flat steel, 47,671 mt of SA4 alloy steel, SA5 sheet and SA6 coated flat steel, 73,080 mt of SB2 rod and 110,235 mt of SB3 long steel.
The annual quota for imports of Russian steel products to the European Union was 3.346 million mt for 2012. However, with the official entry of Russia to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on August 22 this year, the quota was cancelled.
In 2011, Russia supplied 1.898 million mt of steel products to the EU, using 54.39 percent of its annual quota.
