Russkaya Stal (Russian Steel), a non-profit association of Russian domestic steelmakers, has reported that its main member enterprises produced 4.77 million mt of finished steel in May this year, up 2.5 percent from April and also increasing by 2.5 percent compared to May last year.
Steel pipe production of the member enterprises came to 0.49 million mt in May this year, up 9.65 percent compared to April and up 6.8 percent compared to May 2013.
Finished steel production of the member enterprises came to 23.1 million mt in the January-May period this year, up 0.35 percent compared to the same period last year, while pipe output fell by 1.47 percent against the same period of 2013 to 2.28 million mt.
Finished steel shipments of Russian Steel member companies to domestic end-users in May were down by 0.5 percent month on month to 2.8 million mt, while year-on-year figures indicated a one percent increase. In the first five months of the year, Russian Steel companies shipped 13.2 million mt of finished steel to the local market, down one percent year on year.
Members of Russian Steel exported 1.95 million mt of finished steel in May, up 7.1 percent compared to April and rising by 4.7 percent compared to May last year. In the January-May period, export shipments amounted to 9.85 million mt, up 2.25 percent year on year.
