In the January-August period of the current year, Russia’s ferrous metals import volume increased by 1.58 percent year on year to 4.36 million mt, according to the Russian Federal Customs Service. In the same period, ferrous metals imports excluding pig iron, ferroalloys and scrap rose by 63.4 percent to 3.73 million mt, compared to the same period of the previous year.
In the given period, the CIS accounted for 2.78 million mt of the total ferrous metals import volume, while the remaining volume of 1.58 million mt was imported from other foreign countries.
Meanwhile, in the first eight months of this year, Russia's steel pipe imports totaled 493,000 mt, rising by 66 percent year on year.
