Sales of new vehicles in the Mexican market increased 12.3 percent, year-over-year, in June to 122,929 units. This volume is the highest for a single month in the last seven years, and it is the fourteenth consecutive year that exceeds 100,000 units sold per month, according to a SteelOrbis analysis of data from the national statistics agency Inegi.
In the last 26 months (since May 2022), vehicle sales in Mexico have been on a positive trend. In all of 2019 and 2020, only two increases were recorded.
Of the total volume sold, five companies accounted for 58.0 percent of the total: Nissan contributed 17.2 percent of the total, followed by General Motors with 13.6 percent, Volkswagen 11.3 percent, Toyota with 8.5 percent, and Mazda with 7.4 percent.
In June, the market winners were Mazda with 250 basis points totaling a market share of 7.4 percent, Volkswagen gained 80 basis points and concluded the month with 11.3 percent market share and Honda won 70 basis points and stood at 2.6 percent.
In contrast, the losers were Stellantis (Fiat, Chrysler and PSA) with 180 basis points, leaving it with a market share of 5.8 percent, Renault lost 170 basis points, totaling 2.3 percent, and Nissan lost 130 basis points with a market share of 17.2 percent, Chirey lost 120 points to 2.0 percent market share.
In the first half of the year, 708,650 units were sold, 11.9 percent or 75,563 units more compared to the same period in 2023.
