The Russian steel producer Severstal has issued its production results for the first quarter 2008. The figures include the data of all Russia-based and overseas facilities of Severstal
According to the company release, in the first three months of 2008 Severstal produced 4.5 million metric tons of crude steel - up seven percent, 289,337 metric tons of coking coal concentrate - down 58 percent, 44,617 metric tons of coking coal - down seven percent, 1.5 million metric tons of iron ore - up 74 percent (including a 49 percent increase in iron ore pellet production to 1.3 million metric tons), all compared to the first three months of 2007.
In addition, during the given period, Severstal saw a 12 percent increase in its semi-finished steel products output to 521,542 metric tons and a five percent rise in finished steel products output to 3.55 million metric tons. Moreover, in the first quarter of 2008 the company produced 1.57 million metric tons of hot rolled strips and plates - up five percent, 518,667 metric tons of cold rolled sheet - up nine percent, 394,276 metric tons of galvanized and other metallic coated sheet - up five percent, 58,467 metric tons of color coated sheet - down two percent, and 916,633 metric tons of long products - up four percent, all compared to the first quarter of 2007.
