Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced its operational results for the third quarter of the current year. Accordingly, Severstal's crude steel production in the third quarter increased by two percent to 3.06 million mt compared to the second quarter of this year. In the fist nine months of this year, Severstal's crude steel production rose by five percent to 9.09 million mt, on year-on-year basis.
In the third quarter, Severstal's total consolidated steel product sales fell by five percent quarter on quarter to 2.71 million mt. The share of domestic sales remained high at 65 percent. In the January-September period of the current year, Severstal's total consolidated steel product sales increased by four percent year on year to 8.42 million mt.
In the third quarter this year, Severstal's Russian Steel division’s steel product sales decreased by five percent to 2.72 million mt compared with the previous quarter. Semi-finished product sales decreased as a result of lower volumes of slab sold and maintenance works at rolling mills in the given quarter.
In the third quarter this year, Severstal's iron ore pellet sales declined by 18 percent to 2.55 million mt, while its iron ore concentrate sales volumes rose by four percent to 1.42 million mt due to the production growth at the Olcon and Yakovlevskiy mines, both on quarter-on-quarter basis. Total coal sales volumes of the company increased by 16 percent from the previous quarter to 1.22 million mt.
