Slump in Turkey’s industrial production index slows down in April

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in April 2009 Turkey's monthly industrial production index decreased by 18.5 percent to 97,4 compared to April 2008, while it increased by 1.4 percent compared to previous month 
In the sub-sector levels of industry, mining sector index reached from 115,6 to 109,4 by decreasing by 5.4 percent, manufacturing index reached from 120,0 to 95,3 by decreasing 20.6 percent, in April 2009 compared with same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the highest decrease in the manufacturing index in April 2009 was realized in the manufacture of vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers by 50.2 percent over the same month of previous year. This was followed by manufacture of fabricated metal products by 35.2 percent and manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products by 33.2 percent, compared to April 2008.
