German plantmaker SMS Siemag has announced that it has completed the reconstruction of ThyssenKrupp's second 400-ton converter at the Duisburg-Bruckhausen Works in Germany.

According to SMS Siemag's statement, the new converter vessel is one of the largest of its kind worldwide. Without changing the vessel's weight of 400 tons, the internal volume of the converter has been increased by 24 percent.

"Converter I, which has been on stream again for almost one year, delivers good results and fulfils our high-level requirements. For Converter II, we have already awarded acceptance after a 14-day period. We are very satisfied," commented Wolfgang Schulte, senior engineer of the plant development department of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe.
