ThyssenKrupp Nirosta seeks permit for relocation of cold rolling mill

Germany-based stainless flat steel products manufacturer ThyssenKrupp Nirosta has announced that it has submitted a permit application for the relocation of its Düsseldorf-Benrath cold rolling (CR) mill to Krefeld.

In December 2010, ThyssenKrupp Nirosta stated that it planned to develop and optimize its sites in order to strengthen its international competitiveness. Relocation of production from Benrath to Krefeld by the year 2016 is a part of its key strategy.

According to ThyssenKrupp statement, its Nirosta Ferritic Optimization (NIFO) project is focused on expanding production capacities for ferritic stainless steels, i.e., nickel-free material. The integration of the two production lines at Krefeld will reduce processing costs and enable faster and more flexible tuning of production to market requirements.
