German plantmaker SMS Siemag, previously SMS Demag, a subsidiary of German-based SMS Group, has announced the receipt of an order from German steel plate producer Dillinger Hütte for the modernization of its thick-slab caster No. 5.

The order includes the reinforcement of the withdrawal and straightening units as well as various spare parts. The deal also includes the supply, installation and the commissioning of an X-Pact® electrical and automation package.

The commissioning of the modernized caster is scheduled for 2010.

The vertical-type continuous caster at Dillinger Hütte produces the world's thickest slabs, of 230 to 400 mm in gage and of 1,400 to 2,200 mm in width. The original caster was supplied by SMS Siemag in 1998.

The financial details of the order have not been disclosed.
