According to the ‘Spanish iron and steel industry in 2010' report published by Spanish steel producers' association Unesid, last year Spanish pig iron production increased by 22.32 percent year on year to 3.572 million mt, while the country's crude steel output rose by 13.79 percent to 16.343 million mt.
90.3 percent or 14.838 million mt of total Spanish crude steel production was made up of unalloyed steel grades, decreasing by 2.2 percentage points, while four percent or 660,000 mt consisted of alloyed steel grades, increasing by 1.8 percentage points. Stainless steel grades, whose output reached 844,000 mt, accounted for 5.2 percent of Spain's total crude steel output in 2010, up 0.4 percentage points year on year.
On the rolled steel side, according to the report by Unesid, in 2010 15.289 million mt of finished steel products were produced in Spain, posting a 7.08 percent year-on-year increase, mainly due to the increase in output of flat steel products. The flat steel product output figure, indeed, soared by 29.25 percent year on year, reaching 5.108 million mt, while long product production was down by 1.41 percent year on year to 10.151 million mt.
