According to the results, Tata Steel completed the month of June with a significant increase in its hot metal, crude steel and saleable steel production, compared to the corresponding month of 2008.
In June 2009, Tata Steel's crude steel production amounted to 514,000 mt, increasing by 5.8 percent compared to May 2009 and by 21 percent year on year, while its hot metal production totaled 578,000 mt, up 11.8 percent over the previous month and 16 percent compared to June 2008.
Meanwhile, the Indian steel giant's saleable steel production in the period in question rose to 526,000 mt, registering a five percent increase compared to the previous month and up 38 percent year on year, while its sales increased to 497,000 mt with six percent growth month on month and up 19 percent year on year.
In Q1 FY 2009-10, Tata Steel produced 1.503 million mt of crude steel, increasing by 21 percent, while its hot metal production totaled 1.685 million mt, up 20 percent, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
In addition, the producer's saleable steel production in the period in question rose by 30 percent year on year to 1.542 million mt and its sales increased by 22 percent to 1.418 million mt.
