Third group of product exemptions by USTR

On Monday, June 24 a third group of product exemptions are announced by the Department of Commerce (DOC) and the United States Trade Representative office (USTR). Further to the previously announced two groups of exemptions, this third group excludes 116 products from the Bush administration's S201 safeguard measures. DOC stated on the press release dated June 24, 2002 that their intention is to allow the imports of certain products that are not sufficiently available from the US steel producers that are not embodying a threat to the US steel industry. The exemptions cover a range of products including stainless steel bar&wire, welded pipe tube and both hot rolled cold rolled steel. In order to see the full list of third group of product exemptions please click here. In addition to the above, a list of additional products to be excluded from the Section 201 Safeguard measures is also issued. In order to see the entire content of the list please click here. The exclusions will come into effect once the complete descriptions of excluded products are published in Federal Register notice.
