London-based engineering and plant-building company Primetals Technologies has announced that it will upgrade an existing vacuum degassing (VD) plant of Turkish steelmaker Colakoglu Metalurji A.S. in its Dilovası meltshop to a vacuum oxygen decarburization (VOD) plant. The VOD plant is expected to be launched in March 2020.

Once launched, the VOD plant will be the largest worldwide, with a heat size of 295 mt. Thanks to this new modernization project, the company will be able to produce special grade steels such as interstitial free grades, ultra-low carbon grades or stainless steels, while expanding its product mix and entering new markets.
