Turkey’s crude steel output rises by 5.3 percent in 2016

According to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), Turkish crude steel output in December last year decreased by 1.8 percent month on month and was up by 7.1 percent year on year to 2.86 million mt. 
 
Turkish crude steel production which had decreased each year in the 2012-2015 period finally increased year on year in 2016. In 2016, Turkey's crude steel production increased by 5.3 percent year on year to 33.19 million metric tons. In the given year, Turkey's crude steel output by electric arc furnaces rose by 6.8 percent to 21.86 million metric tons, while production by integrated plants increased by 2.6 percent to 11.32 million metric tons, both year on year.
 
In 2016, Turkey's billet output decreased by 0.8 percent to 23.04 million metric tons, while its slab output rose by 22.4 percent to 10.15 million metric tons, both on year-on-year basis.
 
With the crude steel output of 2.86 million mt in December, Turkey’s crude steel production in 2016 exceeded 33 million mt in line with expectations.
