In April this year, Turkish crude steel output, which had been weakening for a while because of pressures on the Turkish steel industry, started to rise as production speeded up at integrated plants, according to the Turkish Iron and Steel Producers' Association (TCUD).
In April, Turkey's crude steel production increased by 1.1 percent month on month and by 2.76 percent year on year to 2.76 million mt. In the same month, Turrkey's crude steel production by electric arc furnaces decreased by 9.6 percent year on year and increased by 0.1 percent month on month, while the output of integrated plants showed a considerable increase of 45.4 percent year on year and was up three percent month on month.
Meanwhile, in the the first four months of the current year, Turkey's crude steel production decreased by 6.5 percent to 10.41 million mt, with crude steel production by electric arc furnaces declining by 12.6 percent to 6.93 million mt, while the output of integrated plants increased by 8.5 percent to 3.48 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
In the January-April this year, Turkey's billet production decreased by 7.8 percent to 7.61 million, while its slab production decreased by 2.8 percent to 2.8 million mt, both year on year.
