Turkey’s Gazi Metal orders cold strip facility from SMS Siemag

Gebze, Turkey-based steel service center Gazi Metal Mamülleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Gazi Metal) has placed an order with German plantmaker SMS Siemag for a new production facility for cold strip.

The strip mill to be provided by SMS Siemag will have an overall annual capacity of 350,000 mt to produce cold strip made of carbon steel and silicon steel as of 2013. In the first construction stage, SMS will also provide a semi-continuous pickling line with an attached acid regeneration plant, producing strips with widths ranging from 600 to 1,550 mm. Gazi Metal will also supply finished strip for the automotive industry and manufacturers of household equipment.

In the second construction stage, the annual production capacity will increase to 700,000 mt and the mills will start producing tinplate
 
Having a flat steel import and export capacity of 200,000 mt per year, Gazi Metal stated that it targets an overall production capacity of 1 million mt per year.
