Turkey’s industrial production index down by 20.9 percent in March

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in March 2009 Turkey's monthly industrial production index decreased by 20.9 percent to 95.9 compared to March 2008, while it increased by 13.4 percent compared to previous month

In the sub-sector levels of industry, mining sector index reached from 115,9 to 104,7 by decreasing by 9.7 percent, manufacturing index reached from 121,3 to 92,8 by decreasing 23.5 percent, in March 2009 compared with same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the highest decrease in the manufacturing index in March 2009 was realized in the manufacture of vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers by 53.1 percent over the same month of previous year. This was followed by manufacture of office accounting-computing equipment, down 41.8 percent, and manufacture of coke, refined petroleum products by 40.7 percent, compared to March 2008.
