Turkey’s industrial production index up five percent in May

According to the data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜIK), in May 2009 Turkey's monthly industrial production index decreased by 17.4 percent to 102.3 compared to April 2008, while it increased by five percent compared to previous month

Among the various industrial sectors, the production index in the mining sector in May this year declined by 12.9 percent from 126.5 to 110.1, while the index for the manufacturing sector fell 19 percent from 124.2 to 100.6, both compared with the same month of the previous year.

Meanwhile, the highest decrease in the manufacturing index in May 2009 was realized in the manufacture of vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers, marking a fall of 41.9 percent over the same month of the previous year. This was followed by manufacture of fabricated metal products with a drop of 29.2 percent, and manufacture of electrical machines and appliances with a decrease of 28.9 percent, compared to May 2008.
