In October this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 491,327 metric tons, decreasing by 41.7 percent compared to September and down 13.5 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $48.15 million, down 51.9 percent month on month and decreasing by 42 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-October period of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 1.5 percent to 6.83 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $880.2 million, down 8.4 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first 10 months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil increased by 17.5 percent year on year to 2.65 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1.32 million metric tons, up 34.4 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 1.31 million metric tons, up 6.28 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in October alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 276,568 metric tons.
