In December 2014, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 1.11 million metric tons, rising by 85.9 percent compared to November and up 19.9 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $122.4 million, up 89.7 percent month on month and decreasing by 9.9 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in 2014, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 9.7 percent to 8.9 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $1.06 billion, down 8.6 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In 2014, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil increased by 30.52 percent year on year to 3.6 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Russia which supplied 1.73 million metric tons, up 54.58 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Sweden in the given period amounted to 1.48 million metric tons, up 5.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in December alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 448,449 metric tons.
