In September this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 842,553 metric tons, decreasing by 11.5 percent compared to August and up 51.3 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports amounted to $100.06 million, down nine percent month on month and increasing by 20.9 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports increased by 2.8 percent to 6.34 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $832.05 million, down 5.3 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first nine months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil increased by 14 percent year on year to 2.37 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1.32 million metric tons, up 22.5 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 1.18 million metric tons, up 20.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in September alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 335,182 metric tons.
