In August this year, Turkey's iron ore imports totaled 951,741 metric tons, increasing by 78.6 percent compared to July and up 51.4 percent year on year, constituting the highest monthly volume so far in the current year. The value of these imports amounted to $109.94 million, up 85.3 percent month on month and increasing by 27 percent year on year, according to the statistics provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Meanwhile, in the January-August period of the current year, Turkey's iron ore imports decreased by two percent to 5.49 million metric tons, while the value of these imports totaled $732 million, down eight percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In the first eight months of this year, Turkey's iron ore imports from Brazil decreased by 2.1 percent year on year to 2.04 million metric tons. Brazil was followed by Sweden which supplied 1.15 million metric tons, up 26.5 percent, while Turkey's iron ore imports from Russia in the given period amounted to 1.04 million metric tons, up 25.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in August alone, Turkey's top iron ore source was Brazil with 338,501 metric tons.
