Turkey’s scrap imports up 4.6 percent in January-August

In August this year, Turkey's scrap import volume increased by 27 percent year on year to 1.3 million metric tons and was up 22.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $295.3 million, down 10.55 percent year on year and rising by 5.8 percent compared to July.

 

In the January-August period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by 4.6 percent to 11.54 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 19.3 percent to $2.55 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In the first eight months of the current year, Turkey imported 2,181,045 mt of scrap from the US, down 9.42 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 1,883,448 mt in the given period, up 13.56 percent year on year.
