Turkey’s scrap imports up three percent in January-May

In May this year, Turkey's scrap import volume remained stable year on year at 1.7 million metric tons, up 24 percent compared to the previous month, according to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK). The value of these imports totaled $388.66 million, down 15 percent year on year and rising by 46.3 percent compared to April.


 
In the January-May period of this year, Turkey's scrap imports increased by three percent to 7.23 million mt, while the value of these imports decreased by 29 percent to $1.47 billion, both compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
In the first five months, Turkey imported 1,335,846 mt of scrap from the US, down 8.92 percent year on year, with the US ranking as Turkey's leading scrap import source, ahead of Russia which supplied 1,208,295 mt in the given period, up 19.09 percent year on year.
